Stridulum (The Visitor) Franco Micalizzi RCA BL 31433, 1979
Stridulum (The Visitor) album cover

The Visitor is an obscure Italian horror movie made at the end of the 1970s, featuring the likes of John Huston, Sam Peckinpah and Shelley Winters. Never destined to become a cinematic classic, the music has fared better with age and creates a suitably insistent and unnerving listening experience. Micalizzi expands his usual core rhythm section with strings and electronics, resulting in a late 1970s funk feel with real 'horror' overtunes through use of strings. It's a good funk score; the best tracks are the flute-driven 'Running Away From Jerzy' and 'Jerzy, Again'.

Overall Rating: 4
