Removalists, The Galapagos Duck, The Philips 635 7020, 1974
Removalists, The album cover

Australia's 70s scene produced a nmuber of interesting and noteworthy bands. The Galapagos Duck fused rock rhythms and jazz with a prog rock edge. Unlike most prog rock bands, they manage to steer away from self-indulgence on this LP, and turn in a raw, edgy, brassy performance. The band, featuring two saxes, drums, double bass and electric piano, were all excellent muscicians - look out for particularly tight drumming from Willie Qua. While many of the tracks are long and not that groovy, the killer cut is the excellent Removalists theme, complete with beat digga breaks.

Overall Rating: 3
