I WAS THERE & I SAW THE WHOLE
THANG - PART SEVEN

Part VII: THE CONCLUSION
"Boy, short visits make long friends", the ELDERS said time & time again
when I was a little thug growing up on the streets of Saint Louis, Missouri.
With that said it appears to me that this is a good time to wrap up my trip
down memory lane, although I have much more to say, but I will spare you the
details so as not to bore such a kind audience.
In closing, the subject of the Blaxploitation Movie Explosion of the 1970s
in the United States of America is a very complex & complicated subject that
I am sure sociologists will debate about for decades to come ... hopefully.
I do the subject no justice since I only have an Associates in Arts Degree
in Mass Communications from Saint Louis Community College at Forest Park, a
Bachelors of Arts Degree in Broadcast Journalism from THE HOWARD UNIVERSITY,
&Ê a Master of Business Administration Degree in Business Management from
the University of the District of Columbia. I am not a PH.D nor an expert,
simply, a concerned citizen who loves movies.
Anyway, I digress, from my memory we who where there & saw the whole
evolvement of the heretoforesaid movement never new it was so dynamic
because it was similar to being in the eye of the hurricane, where
everything is quiet & smooth. It is only the latter generations who are
making a big deal out of our normalcy. I think this is good because by
studying the blaxploitation movement one is getting a snapshot of a period
in American social history. These movies, good bad or indifferent,
demonstrated what was happening at that time. It is history & its
ramifications are still to be actualized.
That I why I employ the youngsters to enjoy their youth to the fullest
because opportunity only knocks once & it will not last forever ... even
these times ... although as you walk your paths it seems this way. A lesson
learned the hardway.
One last thing I would like to bring to your attention is that the
blaxploitation movement seems to quietly be slipping into another phase: The
New Jacks as leading men are quietly being replaced by the urbane,
city-slick, black sidekick such as in 'Armageddon{?)', 'Lethal Weapon',
'Predator', etc.
