Benjamin Gary Wright Ariola IT 86405, 1974
Benjamin album cover

Yes, it's another skiing soundtrack! This one's a German album (although scored and recorded in Britain by British musicians) and features a certain guitarist by the name of Mick Jones, trivia fans. So what's the deal? Very rocky in feel, think early Deep Purple with big Hammond sound and plenty of chunky drums and overdriven guitar. The thing is, there's definitely a funky edge to this one (as the fuzz guitar is often wah-d up to the max), and it's primarily instrumental. The hip-hoppers and producers will definitely dig it (and anyone with a more open approach to the funk) but mainstream funk fans may not find it so appealing. Check 'Aspen Trees' for a wicked little oddball organ/guitar funker.

Overall Rating: 4
